Reiki Group

Calling All Reiki Practitioners

In conjunction with our Prayer Groups, we are also asking for those of you who are Reiki practitioners to join with us in our long-distance Prayer/Healing efforts for all who ask. Our sister Jaharra has graciously volunteered to be the coordinator for our Reiki Group, working in conjunction with our Prayer Groups. She is a Reiki Master Practitioner as taught by Reiki Master Teacher Jane Berrigan. To participate in the Reiki Group, or to volunteer as an assistant in coordinating the group, please contact Jaharra at

What Is Reiki?

Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. Rei=Universal and Ki=Life Energy. The term Reiki implies a system of natural healing that uses Universal Life Energy as a healing tool. Reiki is taught in levels, or degrees, by a unique process known as an attunement, or initiation. The attunement is a brief energy transfer between a Master (or teacher) and a student that opens the path for Universal Life Energy in the student. Because Reiki uses only Universal Life Energy, it is in harmony with all things. Its frequency
balances all other energies it encounters. Reiki works by correcting the flow of energy through the body, allowing the body to heal naturally. Reiki is a Holistic practice and treats the person on all levels: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive and can be used alone or in conjunction with standard medical treatment.

What Reiki Is Not

Although Reiki has been called "the essence of unconditional love", it is not a religion. There is no dogma; no belief system is required. The client does not need to believe in Reiki for it
to work.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki is basically a hands-on healing method but it can be used in different ways - above the body, on food, plants, animals or combined with other healing modalities. Reiki can also be sent long distance to heal those in other places. Reiki relieves stress, removes blocks,
balances the energy body and helps boost the immune system so that the body can heal itself. Unlike drugs, Reiki does not cover up the symptoms of an illness. It works at a subtle energy level to treat the cause. Reiki can be used in any situation. Reiki can help ease pain
and discomfort, help find clarity in mental processes and add calm to emotional situations. It is also an incredibly effective stress management tool. Reiki can even help comfort those in transition.

Reiki Sessions

A typical Reiki session lasts 45-90 minutes during which the client relaxes, fully clothed on the table while the practitioner rests her hands on or above the body in various positions. These positions are designed to treat the major chakras or energy centers, and the glands,
or endocrine system. Reiki energy is intelligent and will go where it is needed most. The practitioner does not decide what kind of healing the client needs, but allows the energy to work in its own way. A Reiki session is usually very relaxing. Some people fall asleep or enter a state of meditation. Typically, the energy feels very warm and tingly, but everyone experiences it differently. Every session will be different as it gives you what you need at that particular moment. After a Reiki session, most people are both relaxed and energized.

Reiki Training

There are three levels of Reiki training in the traditional Usui System. First Degree is a complete course which gives you all you need to work with Reiki for the rest of your life. It is your basic "first aid" package and empowers you to do self-Reiki as well as work on others, including plants and animals. This class is usually taught in a weekend seminar totaling 8-10 hours. The student is given two attunements each day. An attunement is similar to an energy transfer performed on the student by the Reiki teacher. This process creates a direct connection between the student and the Universal Life Energy and ensures that only this energy is being used for the healing work. It also increases the student's vibrational rate and intuitive abilities. Second Degree Reiki is also taught in a weekend seminar. This class teaches you to add focus and power to your Reiki work and enables long distance healing. Reiki II develops a deeper relationship with our selves and the work. You are taught specific techniques to heal the past, re-pattern thought processes and calm the emotions. Third Degree Reiki is taught to those who feel led to teach or achieve extreme personal growth.
